Mexico is home to 22 species of parrots and macaws that inhabit diverse ecosystems, from the high evergreen forest of the southeast, to the pine-oak forest of the mountains of the northwest. Of the 22 species that are distributed in Mexico, 7 species are endemic to Mexico. In addition, there are endemic subspecies. Parrots are widely distributed through 28 of the 32 states in the country.

1. Maroon-fronted Parrot (Rhynchopsitta terrisi), 2. Thick-billed Parrot (Rhynchopsitta pachyrhyncha), 3. Red-crowned Parrot (Amazona viridigenalis), 4.Lilac-crowned Parrot (Amazona finschi). Subspecies A. f. woodi and A. f. finschi. 5. Green Parakeet (Aratinga holochlorus) or (Psittacara holochlorus). Subspecies A. h. brewsteri and A. h. holochlora. 6. Mexican Parrotlet (Forpus cyanopygius). Subspecie F. c. cyanopygius, F. c. pallidus and F. c. insularis. 7. Socorro Parakeet (Psittacara brevipes). 8. Mealy Parrot (Amazona farinosa). Subspecie A. f. guatemalae. 9. Military Macaw (Ara militaris). Subspecie A. m mexicanus. 10. Yellow-headed Parrot (Amazona oratrix). Subspecie A. o magna, A. o. tresmariae and A. o. magna. 11. Red-lored Parrot (Amazona autumnalis). 12. Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao). Subspecie A. m. cyanopterus. 13.Yellow-naped Parrot (Amazona auropalliata). 14. White-crowned Parrot (Pionus senilis). 15. Orange-fronted Parakeet (Arantinga canicularis) or (Eupsittula canicularis). 16. Yucatan Amazon or Yellow-lored Parrot (Amazona xantholora). 17. Brown-hooded Parrot (Pyrilia haematotis). 18. White-fronted Parrot (Amazona albifrons). Subspecie A. a. saltuensis, A. a. nana and A. a. saltuensis. 19. Pacific Parakeet (Psittacara strennuus or Aratinga strenua). 20. Barred Parakeet (Bolborhynchus lineola). 21. Olive-throated Parakeet (Eupsitula nana or Aratinga nana). Subspecie A. n. astec y A. n. vicinalis). 22. Orange-chinned Parakeet (Brotogeris jugularis).
